Hand of the Architect

Hand of the Architect Book

The Moleskine Hand of the Architect book is a collection of three hundred & seventy eight signed drawings by some of the greatest contemporary architects. The book is accompanied by a separate 120 page A4 cahier drawing book.

As a tribute to Piero Portaluppi, the Milanese architect who designed Villa Necchi Campiglio in 1932, The Hand of the Architect has served as part of a three-year project to raise funds for the restoration and upkeep of Milan's Villa Necchi, which is now open to the public. One hundred and ten architects graciously donated works to FAI (Italian Fund for the Environment) for an exhibition, auction, and the creation of this catalog.

A variety of drawings and sketches will inspire you on every page of this full-color catalog. And for your own sketching and ideas, a blank Moleskine Cahier Journal (120 pages, A4 size) is included. Architects have always loved drawings: pencils, felt-tips (Renzo Piano's green one is his hallmark) and pastels are still the ideal instruments for getting early ideas down on paper.

Drost and Van Veen

The enthusiasm for drawing has no geographical or personal limits: despite popular belief, during the creative stage the computer always comes off defeated. Drawing offers a more intimate experience, mentally and physically connecting you with the media. Among the architects participating: Felipe Assadi, Gae Aulenti, Mario Botta, Aldo Cibic, Massimiliano Fuksas, Michael Graves, Vittorio Gregotti, Zaha Hadid, Alessandro Mendini, Renzo Piano, Paolo Portoghesi, Matteo Thun.
